Customer paying at a small business

What we look at.

Start with the core

A businessowners policy may combine property and liability for eligible operations. Check the details, not just the label.

Close the obvious gaps

Professional services, cyber incidents, employee injuries and vehicles often need separate consideration.

Keep up with growth

New contracts, staff, locations and activities can change what the business needs.

Business Owners Policy (BOP)

A package combining property and general liability, often with business income, for eligible businesses. Compare scope and value against separate options.

General Liability

Liability for covered third-party injury or property damage. Professional services, auto and other exposures may need separate treatment.

Professional Liability

Liability arising from the professional services described in the policy. Review defense, exclusions and claims-made provisions.

Workers Compensation

Statutory benefits for covered work-related injuries, subject to applicable law. Accurate payroll and classifications matter at audit.

Hired and Non-Owned Auto

Business liability from rented or employee-owned vehicles used for work. Review the actual use and coverage.

Cyber Liability

Incident response, liability and selected first-party losses. Funds-transfer fraud and social engineering require specific attention.

Commercial Umbrella

Higher liability limits over scheduled underlying policies. Check attachment, exclusions and contract requirements.

Employment Practices Liability

Employment-related claims such as discrimination, harassment or wrongful termination. Review defense and wage-and-hour restrictions.

Questions & answers

Good questions to ask.

Does a businessowners policy cover every exposure?
No. Eligibility and included coverage vary. Professional services, cyber incidents, employment claims and vehicle use may need separate policies or endorsements.
Can a certificate add an additional insured?
No. That status comes from policy wording or an endorsement. Send the contract requirements so the available coverage can be checked before evidence is issued.
Why can an audit change the premium?
Some premiums are based on estimated payroll, sales or other exposures. The insurer compares actual figures and classifications with those estimates, subject to the policy and applicable rules. Keep records current during the term.
